With your flooring foundation in place, it’s time to refine the look with the textures, colors, and finishes that make it truly yours
STEP 2 | CHOOSE THE COLOR
Our custom finishes know no bounds! We can put together any combination of surface textures, custom
colors, layers of colors, sheen options and more, to create your ideal floor.
So let your imagination run wild, we can make your hardwood flooring projects a reality.
Textures
At times, hardwood flooring can feel and look hard, or even cold. We have products and processes
that can soften this feeling, both physically and visually. A floor that has been distressed,
scraped or wire brushed can soften the feel of the wood on your bare or stockinged feet.
Surface treatments can be chosen individually or they can be combined to achieve the look and
feel that’s right for you.
Not only do these treatments bring out the natural beauty of the wood, highlighting the grain
and natural color variations, added texture can also help to hide imperfections and scratches,
making it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas.
Smooth
Smooth texture offers a refined, classic appearance that highlights the wood’s natural beauty.
Wire Brushed
Wire brushing removes soft grain to create contrast and highlight natural wood patterns.
Hand Scraped
Hand scraping adds movement and rustic warmth through artisan-crafted texture.
Band/Kerf Sawn
Kerf-sawn marks impart a rugged, industrial texture inspired by old-world milling.
Added Weathering
Weathering processes recreate natural age markers for a time-worn, storied appearance.
Natural Aged
Natural aging deepens wood tones and amplifies character through time-earned patina.
Layered European Finishes
While site finishes are still very popular and can be advantageous in certain situations,
pre-finishing your floor before installation has many benefits and this is where Custom
Craft stands above the rest. We are home to Colorado’s only flatline finishing facility and
this gives us the ability to do what most cannot.
We utilize a large range of finishing options, all with specific benefits and intended
purposes. These options include industrial stains, reactive stains, hardwax oils, UV cured
oils and urethanes, and LED oils, just to name a few. We can mix and match these products to
target the specific goals of your project.
CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT Eliminate the hassle of dust, fumes and cure times. Our facility eliminates many environmental factors such as temperature and humidity fluctuations as well as light contamination, providing a more precise and predictable outcome.
INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH Finish options include industrial strength products, offering greater durability and protection from wear and tear, scratches and spills, thereby extending the lifespan of your hardwood flooring and reducing the need for frequent refinishing in the future.
LAYERED FINISHES Creating a truly custom hardwood floor often requires layering finishes to achieve depth, character, and dimension. Techniques like cerusing highlight the grain, while variations in color tones, sheens, and textures add richness and complexity. By combining multiple layers—stains, reactive treatments, and protective topcoats—we craft floors that feel unique, dynamic, and tailored to your design vision.
ONE-STOP SHOP Trim, molding pieces, stair nose, treads, and risers, can also be pre-finished in our Colorado facility using the same products and processes, eliminating a lot of headaches and hassles of matching colors.
Color Options
Color matching is an artform. As an art, it’s always preferable to have an artist wielding the
brush. The attention to detail it takes to achieve the color you want takes the patience and
experience of someone that has been practicing this particular art for years. We have decades of
experience matching colors and the know-how to successfully make your vision a reality.
The full color spectrum is at your disposal, from light, natural hues to dark, rich tones,
we can do it all.
